Intramurals: FAQs

A Random Pic

Here is a list of frequently asked questions regarding Intramural Sports at The University of Tennessee.  Though there are numerous questions and answers posted on this site, intramural participants are encouraged to read the Intramural Participant Handbook for all policies and procedures.

What activities are offered by the Intramural Sports Program?

Information on the activities offered during each semester can be found on the intramural website under the events calendar link.

Who is eligible to participate in Intramural Sports?

All UT undergraduate and graduate students currently enrolled and have paid their activity fees shall be eligible for intramural activities.  Faculty and staff members with a Recreation Membership are eligible for intramural activities.

What do I need to participate in intramural activities?

All participants must present a current UT Student ID or Recreation Membership Card before each intramural contest. If the membership card does not have a picture, you will be required to show a picture ID with your membership card to play. NO EXCEPTIONS!

What is the difference between a forfeit and a default forfeit?

A forfeit occurs when a team does not have the minimum number of players present and legally signed in at game time.  A forfeit fine will be assessed to the team captain’s student account for all forfeit.  A default forfeit occurs when a team captain contacts the Intramural Office in advance to notify the staff that his or her team will be unable to attend their contest. Teams must notify the Intramural Office by 3:00PM the day of the contest for weekday games and by 5:00PM on Friday for weekend games.  The game is recorded as a loss but no forfeit fine is assessed.

How can I participate in Intramural Sports if I do not have a team?

Throughout each semester, the Intramural Sports Program offers captain's meetings for every major league sport (Soccer, Flag Football, Volleyball, Basketball, Team Tennis, Sand Volleyball, Softball, etc).  Participants hoping to join a team are encouraged to attend these meetings because this is a great opportunity to either form a team with other free agents or join an existing team.  However, those participants who attend the captain's meetings are more likely to find a team than those who just sign-up in the Intramural Office.

I was ejected from an intramural game.  What should I do?

All ejected players must schedule a meeting with the Intramural Coordinator before he or she is permitted to participate in future intramural contests.  Ejected players are prohibited from participating in any intramural contests until he or she has been reinstated.

Can I play on more than one team?

Players may only play on one single gender team and one CoRec team in the same sport.  Therefore, a participant may NOT play for a men's Res Hall team and a Fraternity team.

Can I play in the Men's League if I'm a woman?

A female participant may play on a Men's League team; however, she forfeits the right to play on a Women's League team.

What if the wrong score is listed online?

If the wrong score is listed on the website, the manager should immediately contact the Intramural Office at imsports@utk.edu.
