Located in the HPER building, the UT climbing wall features the largest climbing space in the area. All types of climbing angles from horizontal roofs to vertical walls to slab and crack climbing are available for climbers of all abilities and levels to climb on. UT groups wishing to use the wall can make special arrangements by contacting the Outdoor Center.

The climbing wall is run by the UT Outdoor Program and is open to all current students, faculty, and staff at no cost. Climbing shoes, harness and belay devices are provided at no cost for those who do not have their own equipment. All potential climbers must have their UT ID to use the wall and must attend a Wall Safety Orientation to use the bouldering wall.

To climb on the new top rope climbing wall, all climbers must pass a proficiency test on belaying, harness use, knot tying. A belay school is taught each day from 7pm to 9pm for those looking to learn how to belay, wear a harness, and tie a figure eight knot. Climbers who pass the proficiency test are issued a belay card that must be shown in order to climb on the top rope wall.

Refillable chalk balls are sold for $5; loose chalk is not allowed at the Vol Wall.

Climbing can be done alone or with a group of friends and the Vol Wall is a great place to meet people, relax, work out and have fun.
