Climbing Wall "VOLWall"

A Random Pic

Located in the HPER building, the UT climbing wall features the largest climbing space in the area. Climbers of all abilities can climb on all types of climbing angles such as horizontal roofs, vertical walls, slab, andcrack climbing. UT groups who wish to use the wall can make special arrangements by contacting the Outdoor Center.

The climbing wall is open to all current students, faculty, and staff who have a RecSports Membership at no cost. Climbing shoes, harness and belay devices are provided at no cost for those who do not have their own equipment. All potential climbers must have their UT ID to use the wall and must fill out a waiver at the climbing wall desk.

To climb on the top rope wall, all climbers must pass a proficiency test on belaying, harness use, knot tying. Come to our belay class every Monday - Thursday from 7pm to 9pm to learn how to properly climb the top rope wall. Climbers who pass the proficiency test are issued a belay card that must be shown in order to climb on the top rope wall.

Refillable chalk balls are sold for $5; Chalk bags can be rented for $1. Loose chalk is not allowed at the Vol Wall.

Climbing can be done alone or with a group of friends. The VolWall is a great place to meet people, relax, work out and have fun.
