Badminton

While contemporary badminton first appeared in the mid-19th century, it evolved from the game battledore and shuttlecock, which can be traced back to ancient Greece, China, Japan and India.Especially popular in Asia and Europe today, badminton became a full competition sport at the Olympic Games in 1992 attracting over a billion viewers.The club enjoys a variety of diverse cultures with players from US, England, Canada, Malaysia, Indonesia, India, Pakistan, Vietnam, Taiwan, China, Thailand, Russia and Africa.

The brand new Competitive Ballroom Team at UT practices every Tuesday and Thursday from 5-7 in Studio 7 in the Tennessee Recreational Center for Students (TRECS). Membership dues also cover membership to weekly lessons with Ballroom Mania (UT's very own social dance club). The team also aims to travel to various competitions in the region to compete in both Latin and Standard dances. Whether you're a seasoned ballroom veteran or brand new to it all, come on down and give the team and ballroom dancing a try!

We are currently in the process of organizing the first competitive collegiate level catfishing team in the nation. The end-goal of this organization is to foster an environment of universal acceptance, to form a nationwide league of fellow collegiate catfish anglers, and to increase the amount of public awareness of the positive aspects of recreational fishing.

The Canoe and Hiking Club is a member-driven club composed of diverse, open-minded individuals who share a common interest: the outdoors! Trips include backpacking, canoeing, kayaking, mountain biking, rafting, and more. The club also provides a weekly kayak roll session at the Student Aquatic Center, for those who wish to learn whitewater kayaking.

The club will be involved in the five main disciplines of shotgun sports; International Skeet, International Trap, American Skeet, American Trap, and Sporting Clays. The team will be competitively focused with the mission of cultivating top athletes in the sport. The Rowing Club at the University of Tennessee was founded in 1972 as a co-ed organization and has had a rich and successful history since, including multiple invitations to the Dad Vail Regatta. The team practices four times a week, and travels to and competes in regattas against other club and NCAA crews. No experience is necessary and there are no height requirements.

Club diving team much like the club swim team, starting out small, one practice a week, then growing over time. We are looking to recruite divers that are looking to have fun, no experience needed, then maybe becoming more competitive and series overtime.

The Equestrian Club was started in the mid 1970's and belongs to the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association. The goal of the club is to provide the University of Tennessee students with the opportunity to enhance their equitation skills and compete in competitions that match their level of experience and skill. The club is co-ed even though the majority of members are female. The club typically has over 30 members that practice once a week for an hour.

The Ice Hockey Club was started in 1967 with the objective to provide the University of Tennessee students with the opportunity to participate both recreationally and competitively in the sport. The club currently competes in the American Collegiate Hockey Association. This year the club is working to compete in the national tournament.

The Men's Lacrosse Club was founded in 1974 at the University of Tennessee and is a member of the SouthEastern Lacrosse Conference (SELC) which is a division of the United States Lacrosse Men's Division Intercollegiate Association (USL MDIA). The club works to provide students with the opportunity to participate in and enjoy a meaningful and competitive program in the sport of lacrosse. The club has won four SELC Championships and made three appearances in the national tournament since 1993

The Women's Lacrosse Club was founded in 2000 and is a member of the Southwest Lacrosse League. The club goal is to introduce lacrosse to the female students at the University of Tennessee that have never been exposed to the game while providing a competitive and fun alternative sport. The club travels to a variety of tournaments throughout the year. Since the club was founded they have made three trips to championship tournaments.

Paintball at the University of Tennessee is on the path of revolutionizing the college paintball scene. We want to create not only a paintball team that competes in all of the current tournaments around the world, but also create a program that broadens the horizons of paintball, changes the way it is played, and changes the way it is thought of as a sport. We want to make college paintball a must have sport on every campus around the nation. Currently, the club competes in the National Collegiate Paintball Association, and the club hosts Club Days once a month where all club members play both scenario and speedball.

Roller Hockey

We are a group of young men and women who get together to share our common interest of roller hockey. We have all skill type players participating with us from experienced to just trying hockey out. Our practice consists of a few skill drills and then scrimmage. We try to do at least two tournaments a semester including at least one at our home rink. Our semesterly dues are $50 and go towards a variety of things including jerseys, any flyers, pucks, goal nets, tape, etc.

The Rugby Club started in 1970 with the goals of developing character, camaraderie and leadership through competition at the highest level of rugby in the country. Past teams have produced six All-Americans and three members of the USA National Team. In 2004 the club finished eleventh in the nation. This past year the club earned their first South Championship and competed as the eighth seed in the national tournament in Berkley, CA.

The Women's Rugby Club was formed at The University of Tennessee in 1980 and today is a fast-growing, competitive club whose purpose is to provide fellowship, recreation and overall enjoyment to its members. The club plays both fall and spring seasons in which they host approximately seven home matches per year and travel to approximately seven away matches per year. In addition, the club attends about three tournaments each year.

The Sailing Club is both a recreational club, focused on relaxing and having fun, and a collegiate racing team, focused on winning regattas. The dual roles of the club mean that there is something for everyone, whether you're serious about sailing or not. One of the biggest club activities is the "Learn to Sail" classes held throughout the year. In past years the club has also gone on spring break trips in the Florida Keys.

The Ski and Snowboard Club is an organization for University of Tennessee students who are interested in snow sports and are looking to have an amazing time while taking advantage of some incredible trips. The club is open to any UT student regardless of experience. Club membership is $50 and members will receive a t-shirt, discounts at several area ski shops, and $50 off a season pass to Ober Gatlinburg. We take trips to Cataloochee, N.C, Snowshoe, W.V., and Colorado.

The Men's Soccer Club competes in the Southeastern Collegiate Soccer League. The club works to develop the skills and knowledge of members into a team committed to improving both team and individual performances. Practices are held each week. In the off season the club does fundraisers such as carwashes and clinics, and competes in indoor soccer leagues and friendly tournaments. Being a part of the club means being committed, not only to soccer but also to being a loyal student at the university. The club takes pride in wearing orange and white and representing Tennessee on and off the pitch.

The Women's Soccer club provides students with the opportunity to continue to play their sport at a competitive level, to stay physically active, and to meet new people. While no experience is necessary, the team is competitive and competes in tournaments and matches with clubs from around the region.

The Swimming Club at the University of Tennessee works to provide a place to teach and improve swimming technique while providing opportunities for fitness swimming and competition. The club was founded just last year but quickly found their way to the top of the podium with the men winning their first meet. This year the club plans to increase membership and attend and host eight meets while continuing their early success.

The purpose of the Triathlon Club is to unite students and faculty in order to help them understand how the sport of triathlon can help them lead healthier lives, physically and mentally. In doing so the club intends to educate its members to train smarter and harder together, in hopes to reduce injury throughout the triathlon season. This club will consist of members training for overall health and those that intend to compete in competitions as a club team at the University.

The participation of the tumbling club is voluntary and noncompetitive. It provides a combination of skills in gymnastics, cheerleading, acrobatics, and trampoline all while having fun as well as getting a good workout. Both male and female, experienced and nonexperienced, are welcome.

The Women's Club Volleyball team has been active at the University of Tennessee since 1998. The club consists of 2 competitive traveling teams and one novice, non-traveling team. The club competes against other university club teams at tournaments all over the country, including the NIRSA national tournament held each year in a different city. The National Men's and Women's Volleyball Club Association is run by the National Intramural -Recreational Sports Association

Wakeboard

The Wakeboard Club at the University of Tennessee provides the opportunity for all water sport enthusiasts to participate, train, and compete in wakeboarding events. The club is provided with a new Mastercraft tournament ski-boat each year. Competitions available to members include: USA Wakeboard events such as the ALT Games - College Action Sports National Championships, rail jams, and annual wakeboard tournaments hosted by local shops such as the American Boat Center.

Water Polo

The Water Polo Club was founded in 1992, and has quickly grown and developed into one of the major Collegiate Club Water Polo Programs in the Southeastern region. The Club offers the University of Tennessee students, faculty, and staff, men and women, an opportunity to learn to play water polo just for fun as well as participate in inter-collegiate club water polo competition through the Southeastern Division of the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA). This year, the club also plans to launch a competitive women's team.

The Wrestling club was started in 2000 as a way for students to stay active in the sport while competing against other clubs nationally. The club typically participates in dual matches and tournaments in the southeastern United States. In 2004 the club placed tenth at nationals.
