Experience breathtaking views of the Southern Appalachians.
Spend the long weekend hiking along mountain ridges and miniature ponies, with everything you need in your backpack.
Just the trip experience overall. The people that went & the people that guided the trip were awesome as well.
Everyone is in a great mood as you walk up to the first night’s campsite , even after hiking 5 miles along part of the Appalachian Trail. “This is my first ever backpacking trip,” says Erin as she sets down her pack on a small boulder, “and if backpacking is always this amazing, I need to do it more.”
“Backpacking can be this amazing, if you know the right spot. Some places are rather dull,” replies your trip leader, Brad with a big grin, “and there are plenty of other just as amazing parks in the southeast.”
What you saw on day one left your camera full and mouth hanging open in amazement. The rest of the trip promises to do more of the same.
The trails of Grayson Highlands cross huge grassy balds, pass along tall rocky cliffs, and provide views of southeast VA’s Blue Ridge Mountains.
The pace is steady; perfect for chatting with friends, soaking up the spring flowers, taking photos to later Instagram (no cell service here!). Tasty home cooked meals (such as sweet curried rice with chicken or tofu, and burritos with black beans, ripe avocados, and salsa) fill your hungry stomach.
Expect to hike 4-8 miles each day and sleep under the moon and stars for three amazing nights. Day one is gentle uphill all day, day two is gently rolling on top mountains with big views. Day three hikes downhill slowly all day, heading back to the University van.
