Semester Bike Rental FAQ

The rental period will begin on the first day of classes for the semester and continue until all bikes are rented. All bikes will be due back on or before the last day of classes of the semester.  


Currently registered students or faculty and staff who are RecSports Members


The cost is $50 ($25 during summer) for the semester and includes the bike, bike helmet, bike U-lock, and basic safety & maintenance instruction.

No. You can take the bike wherever you want, but you are responsible for the bike and all rental equipment.


You are responsible for maintenance and upkeep of the equipment. You should bring in the bike to have the UTOP mechanics help with tune-ups and maintenance. This is included in the rental fee.


Replacement keys cost $8. Payment must be received before a new key is issued. There are no refunds for found keys.


This is up to you. If you loan someone your bike, you are responsible for any damages or theft that occurs.


1) Contact the local authorities who have jurisdiction in that area and report the situation. Let the authorities know that the bike is registered with UTPD (registration information is on file at the Outdoor Center). Keep a copy of this report. 2) Contact the Outdoor Program and let them know of the situation so they can help look for the items. 3) Ultimately you will be responsible for paying for any missing equipment, and the amount due must be paid in full by the end of the semester, or a financial hold will be placed on your University account.
