Pedal winding single track trails all day. Grind uphill and grin on the downhills. Prior mountain bike experience required.
“This is an amazing view. How far down do you think that rapid is?”
The Falls Branch overlook, where you’re standing on a huge rock cliff, overlooks the Big South Fork River, 200 feet below.
Taylor, one of your instructors, chips in, “Pretty amazing ride, right? And we’ve just started. We’ve got more views and some awesome riding to do. Not too much up, and just enough down.”
The group’s stoke is high, and the fast and easy riding has just enough challenge for beginners to intermediate riders.
The Grand Gap trail, an IMBA EPIC Level Designation trail, in the Big South Fork National Recreation Area sits on the canyon rim created by the Big South Fork River. The Grand Gap is fairly flat, with easy hill climbing and fast, easy, flow-like descents. On your right is the gorge, and on your left are huge caves, overhanging cliffs, and hardwood forests.
The trail, while not technical, does require some prior mountain biking experience. We recommend at least 2 other rides with us or on your own.
The shortest distance we’ll ride is 8 miles. However, if more experienced riders want more mileage, we can accommodate that.
This trip is for you if you:
Want to get outside and see some scenic views.
Need to release some stress by exercising through the woods.
This trip is not for you if you:
have never ridden a bike
want a big mileage day, over 12 miles of riding
want really technical and challenging terrain. There are only a handful of technical sections, each less than 6 feet long.
Some mountain bike experience needed. Have attended prior trips with us or ridden on your own.
